With his own musical experience as his point of reference, each manufacturer thinks about how that equipment is supposed to sound, and tries to translate this to a slogan which is often mentioned in one breath with the brand. Electrocompaniet chose "if music really matters".

Electrocompaniet is a Norwegian company which was founded in the first half of the 1970s, as a reaction to the audible imperfections of amplifiers at that time. The first product was a 2X25 Watt amplifier which effectively dealt with the Transient Intermodulation (TIM) described by Matti Otala.

Today, the company is active in more than 40 countries. There are three product lines: Prelude, Classic and DP. De equipment from the Prelude line guarantees an excellent musical experience at a moderate price. The PD-1 DAC USB (€1490), among others, is situated in this product line. The Classic product line stands out due to its timeless and specific design of the perspex front plate, gold accents on a black background and the large, stylised brand name. This product line offers pre-, output and integrated amplifiers, in addition to CD players and a loudspeaker set called 'the Nordic Tone".

Electrocompaniet strives for a musical rendering which best approaches live concerts or studio recordings. Managing Director Mikal Dreggevik describes this striving as "closing the gap to the master".
