Musical Fidelity 550K Supercharger

Preamplifier

The Musical Fidelity 550K Supercharger is placed between (power) amplifier and loudspeakers, and increases the power of each 50W+ amplifier to 550 watt RMS music power. The concept of amplifying the loudspeaker output is certainly not new: for years, car radios have been provided with extra power by means of external ‘boosters‘, and the concept has been used for years in multiroom amplifiers as well. The benefit of this connection is particularly the ease of making connections: disconnect the existing cables from the loudspeakers and plug them in the MF Supercharger, place a loudspeaker cable between Supercharger and loudspeaker, add current: your uprade is ready! This upgrade of 10dB of additional dynamics for virtually any audio system. Each amplifier with too little power will start to clip and seriously distort at higher volumes, because both the required voltage and current cannot be supplied. If you connect the Musical Fidelity 550K Supercharger to your current amplifier, this problem will be solved: your own amplifier no longer has to drive a (potentially difficult) loudspeaker, but only the 550K Supercharger, and for that it only requires 7% of the power is normally uses for the loudspeakers. And when your amplifier no longer has to do its ‘best’ to supply that power, it will start to sound much better. The Musical Fidelity 550K Supercharger uses the electronics of the existing MF kW550 power amplifier in a ‘low gain’ configuration.
