UD in Denon DVD-A1UD stands for Universal Disc. The appliance is the first Blu-ray player in the world that can play both DVD Audio and superaudio CDs through the HDMI/Denon link digital output.

The DVD-A1UD was given a solid Direct Mechanical Ground construction. It was designed to eliminate virtually all vibration. The appliance has a low centre of gravity for maximum vibration proof and silent operation. Characteristic are the double steel top plate, black clamper covering plate, cast zinc housing for the mechanism, as well as newly designed suspended dampers and a thin aluminium tray.
