Cambridge Audio Azur 840W
Power Amplifier
The 840W uses Cambridge Audio’s second generation Class XD active crossover displacement technology resulting in an audio experience offering ‘the best of two worlds’. Class XD manages to combine the musicality and expression of Class A with the dynamics and rhythmic drive of Class AB, while many of the pitfalls of both technologies are cleverly avoided. The 840W offers a breathtaking 200 W per channel at 8 Ohms in stereo, and can also be used in a bi-amp or bridged mono configuration. In a bi-amp configuration, one 840W (of the pair) powers each speaker so that the tweeters and woofers each have their own dedicated amplifier channel. Alternatively, the bridged mono mode allows the use of two 840Ws with each configured as a 500 watt monobloc. In fact, combinations of the two options allow the use of 1, 2, 4 or even more 840Ws, taking it to the truly stratospheric high-end. For the 840W it is not only a matter of power and flexibility. The amplifier was designed by the same team that created the delicate sounds of the 840A V2 and the 840C and, in spite of its power reserves and ability to power great loads, offers very detailed natural musical performances. Truly an iron fist in a velvet glove!
